What is Habitat Island?

Habitat Compensation Island is a man-made island located in the Olympic Village area of downtown, Vancouver. What's remarkable about this island is the fact that it was made from old materials leftover from construction work sites during the 2010 winter Olympics. Materials include rocks, rubble, cobble, concrete, sand and boulders. Interestingly enough, this island was created as compensation for the removal of another shoreline area! Thanks to the law, we now have a wonderful space for species to thrive and a welcoming community for families to enjoy.
